Control Is What Moves a Sales Call Forward


Control in a sales call isn’t about pressure.

It is direction.


Most calls don’t fail because the salesperson was rude or unprepared.


They fail because the salesperson answered questions… and never guided the conversation to the next step.


Polite. Informative. And incomplete.


The Foundation of Control


At TRUSkills, control starts with one rule:


IF YOU ANSWER A QUESTION, ASK A QUESTION


This keeps the call moving with intention instead of drifting aimlessly.


You’re not interrogating the guest, you’re guiding them.


Why Control Matters


Guests don’t call to hear you regurgitate what they already see online.


They call because they’re trying to make a decision.


If you don’t lead that process, the call ends with:


“I’ll let you know.”


Control is what helps you get the guest to the next step.


4 Examples of Maintaining Control on a Sales Call


Use these as frameworks, not scripts:


  1. Availability Question


    “Yes, it is available.

    When is a good day and time for you to take it for a test drive?”


  2. Price Question

    “Great news, price is the easiest part of what I do.

    So I’m accurate, are you planning to finance, lease, or pay cash?”


  3. Payment Question


    “We have many options to fit your budget.

    It is also important that you’re happy with the vehicle, have you driven an [vehicle]?”


  4. Credit Question


    “We work with many great lenders and credit profiles.

    When do you have time to come in and take the vehicle for a test drive?”

You’re not ignoring their question, you’re acknowledging it


Your question should be relevant to the guest’s question, HOWEVER guiding them forward


That’s control.


Control Isn’t Optional


A call without a next step is leaving your paycheck to hopes and dreams.


Last time I checked, you can’t pay the rent with hopes and dreams.


Being a professional means guiding the conversation to an outcome:


  • an appointment,

  • A personalized walkaround video,

  • or a clear next step.


Control isn’t about talking more.
